Homelessness are affecting more than 500,000,000 Americans on any given day and night. At the moment, HUD’s McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants Program is now at the stage of ending this crisis.
CoC and ESG Programs
Every year, Housing and Urban Development of the US is awarding Homeless Assistance Grants to various communities that is administering and servicing at local level.
To be more specific, at the Emergency Solutions Grant or ESG program as well as Continuum of Care or CoC program, it funds the cornerstone of the homeless system of every community.
The ESG grant is funding a number of things including:
- Homelessness Prevention and Diversion
- Emergency Shelter
- Rapid Re-Housing and;
- Street Outreach
CoC program on the other hand is focused on funding rapid re-housing, coordinated entry, transitional housing, permanent supportive housing and pilots similar to Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program.
Drastic Improvement throughout the Years
Due to the reason that the HUD is prioritizing evidence-based program as well as practices being part of grants program, the homeless assistance system throughout the country drastically improved. This is in relation to its ability to respond fast to housing crises, connect them with community-based services and help people to have housing again.
